10 Tips to Protect Your Family From The Flu
I have gotten a lot of questions lately about how you can protect your family from the flu. So in this video, I have given you 10 Tips for ways that you can protect your family in this really difficult flu season.
I will list them for you here. The video goes into greater detail for you in each of those tips.
- It is not too late to get a flu vaccine
- Good handwashing
- Try not to touch contaminated surfaces
- Clean high touch surfaces in public and at home
- Avoid crowded public places
- Stay well hydrated
- Boost your immune system
- Avoid cigarette smoke
- Limit face to face exposure (like kissing your baby)
- Use disposable products
I also get a lot of questions about essential oils in treating and preventing illness in children.
I am not an expert on the use of these, as they are not approved as medications and have not been studied in children.
However, I give you some ways that you can make appropriate decisions on how to use them in children, if you are going to use them in your child. Again - I give you more details in the video.
- Discuss with your child's healthcare provider
- Know the safe formulas for children
- Know appropriate dosages and concentrations for children
- Never give oils by mouth to children
- Use carrier oils for topical use with children
- Avoid vaporized uses in homes with anyone with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, flu, bronchiolitis, etc
- Do not use teething remedies due to risk of numbing of airway and choking risk
- Make sure to consult an expert in essential oils usage not just a representative
If your child does get sick with the flu, I talk about how to prevent others from getting ill in the video as well. Make sure that you check that out too. Here are some highlights of this:
- Keep the sick person quarantined
- Use separate dishes or paper products
- Teach them to cover their mouth when coughing and sneezing if possible
- Use their own tissues and dispose of separately and wash hands after coughing and sneezing
- Keep at home until completely well ( ie no fever for 24 hours unmedicated)
I hope that you find this helpful. Let me know what you think. And of course, contact me if you have questions.
