10 Tips to Protect Your Family From The Flu

child health flu

I have gotten a lot of questions lately about how you can protect your family from the flu. So in this video, I have given you 10 Tips for ways that you can protect your family in this really difficult flu season.

I will list them for you here. The video goes into greater detail  for you in each of those tips.

  1.  It is not too late to get a flu vaccine
  2. Good handwashing
  3. Try not to touch contaminated surfaces
  4. Clean high touch surfaces in public and at home
  5. Avoid crowded public places
  6. Stay well hydrated
  7. Boost your immune system
  8. Avoid cigarette smoke
  9. Limit face to face exposure (like kissing your baby)
  10. Use disposable products

I also get a lot of questions about essential oils in treating and preventing illness in children.

I am not an expert on the use of these, as they are not approved as medications and have not been studied in children.

However, I give you some ways that you can make appropriate decisions on how to use them in children, if you are going to use them in your child. Again - I give you more details in the video.

  1. Discuss with your child's healthcare provider
  2. Know the safe formulas for children
  3. Know appropriate dosages and concentrations for children
  4. Never give oils by mouth to children
  5. Use carrier oils for topical use with children
  6. Avoid vaporized uses in homes with anyone with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, flu, bronchiolitis, etc
  7. Do not use teething remedies due to risk of numbing of airway and choking risk
  8. Make sure to consult an expert in essential oils usage not just a representative

If your child does get sick with the flu, I talk about how to prevent others from getting ill in the video as well. Make sure that you check that out too. Here are some highlights of this:

  1. Keep the sick person quarantined
  2. Use separate dishes or paper products
  3. Teach them to cover their mouth when coughing and sneezing if possible
  4. Use their own tissues and dispose of separately and wash hands after coughing and sneezing
  5. Keep at home until completely well ( ie no fever for 24 hours unmedicated)

I hope that you find this helpful. Let me know what you think. And of course, contact me if you have questions.
