Breastfeeding is one of the only areas in our lives where we can have zero experience and no training, but we still expect that we'll be an expert right from day one.
I was a practicing Nurse Practitioner when I had my first baby. But, as a brand new mom, that didn't keep me from feeling like a failure when I didn't just magically know how to feed my baby. When I think back to that time, I remember how stressful it was to think that I had to know things I had no experience with. Not having any breastfeeding education or support made the breastfeeding learning curve REALLY steep. If you are anything like me, you may have had feelings like this too. I want to help you feel successful too.
Prenatal Consults
Prenatal lactation consults are a great way to get a head start of successful breastfeeding. Parents who receive education and support about breastfeeding prior to the birth of their baby have greater confidence and more successful in their breastfeeding journey. Your consultation may be covered by your insurance. Read the information below.

INITIAL Mom + Baby Consults
NOTE: New Client or Initial Mom and Baby Consults are the first consultation with mom and baby AFTER delivery. (If you had a prenatal consult, your first visit after baby is born is a NEW CLIENT or INITIAL consultation. This is because there are now TWO clients with new information to review)

Rachel - Mom of a medically fragile child
When I got connected with LuAnn, I had reached the point of desperation. My second baby was born underweight with a heart defect and had heart surgery at six days old. During our time in the hospital, our caregivers pushed bottle feeding over breastfeeding in order for her to gain weight. The result was exclusive pumping, reflux, and a lot of stress on the entire family.
LuAnn listened intently to our experience and brought a lot of clinical knowledge to the conversation. She assessed Millie feeding, me pumping and talked through our bottle feeding techniques with the same expertise we experienced with speech therapists in the hospital. She helped me uncover several issues that were contributing to Millie's reflux. She also educated me on many of the benefits of breastfeeding that I didn't already know which gave me confidence that Millie would continue to gain weight and thrive if we decided that exclusive breastfeeding was right for us. Over the next few weeks, Millie and I practiced with LuAnn's advice. By our third and final consult ( all virtual by the way) Millie was exclusively breastfed and no longer suffered with reflux. Millie is no longer underweight and is such a happy baby. I couldn't be more thankful to Luann. I plan to stay in touch with LuAnn with any other needs as we watch our little miracle learn and grow.
